Origin
How it began
I made the first chocolate for the event I run called Shaboot Camp—a warm, intentional gathering created to help people reconnect with the beauty of Shabbat dinner. It was so well received that I made a second flavor for the following month's gathering.
A month later, I had a growing collection of chocolates inspired by the places I had lived and traveled. Each built in four layers. Each finished by hand. Each named in the language of the place it draws from. At first, I thought I was preserving the flavors of those places. Eventually, I realized I was preserving something else. Travel had always been the rare part of my life where nothing was at stake. I wasn't trying to optimize myself or become a better version of who I was. I simply had permission to be present - to wander, to notice, to savor, to linger. I wanted to create something that could offer a small version of that feeling without ever leaving home.
Every ZoKhara chocolate is an invitation to arrive somewhere - not only in the world, but within yourself.
The manifesto
Hedone — goddess of pleasure, delight, and enjoyment.
We live in a world that has become obsessed with optimization. We track our sleep. We count our steps. We chase better habits, greater productivity, and endless self-improvement. These things have their place. But somewhere along the way, many of us forgot that not every moment needs to justify itself.
Joy doesn't have to be earned.
Some things are good just because they are good.
The moments we remember most are rarely the most efficient. They're the unhurried conversations, the unexpected discoveries, the meals that lasted longer than planned, and the places that reminded us what it feels like to simply be alive. That is why we chose Hedone as ZoKhara's emblem. In Greek mythology, Hedone is the goddess of pleasure, delight, and enjoyment. She is the daughter of Eros - the god of love and passion - and Psyche, the once-mortal woman who endured great trials before becoming the goddess of the soul.
In classical allegory, desire alone is fleeting. But when passion becomes united with the soul, it transforms into something enduring. The child born from this complete harmony is Hedone - representing true, divine joy that satisfies both the body and the spirit.
ZoKhara is the union of the Greek words Zoe (life) and Khara (joy). It is our reminder that joy is not a distraction from a meaningful life. It is part of one.
