Our story
Our story is deeply intertwined with the story we all share to find out who we are and the journey we take to live a full, vibrant life.
How it began
I made the first chocolate for the event I run called Shaboot Camp - a warm, intentional gathering aimed at helping people reconnect with the beautiful tradition of Shabbat dinner. It was so well received that I made the second flavor for the next month's event. And that was when I began to realize I was onto something special.
A month later, I had a whole line of flavors inspired by the places I had lived and traveled that made me feel alive. Each built in four layers, each finished by hand, each named in the language of the place it draws from.
Hedone
Goddess of pleasure, enjoyment, and delight
We live in a completely over-optimized world. We wear devices to track our sleep, we use AI to remove any inefficiencies in our schedule, we cold plunge and meditate and read self-development books in a never ending quest to become the most flawless version of ourselves.
But here's the thing: some things are good just because they are good. Unbridled, unrestricted joy is a fundamental part of the human experience. Some things deserve a place in our lives not because they serve any kind of higher purpose, or make us "better." Some things are good just because they are good.
That is why we chose Hedone for our chocolate's icon. In Greek mythology Hedone is the child of Eros - the god of sex, love, and passion. The god of physical pleasure and the tactile kind of experience that we think of when we think of the limited version of "Hedonism" that has become derided in our world of hyper-improvement.
However, Hedone's mother is Psyche - the originally mortal woman who underwent harsh trials to prove her love and was eventually granted immortality and became the goddess of the human soul.
And this is why Hedone is the perfect representation for ZoKhara. In classical allegory, physical desire (Eros) on its own can be fleeting or destructive. However, when it undergoes trials and binds itself to the deeper, enduring soul (Psyche), it becomes immortal.
The child born from this complete harmony is Hedone - representing true, divine joy that satisfies both the body and the spirit, rather than just empty physical gratification. ZoKhara is the union of the greek words Zoe (life) and Khara (Joy). The fulfillment of divine presence and embodiment that is a god given part of our human experience.
